This pub needs to be saved, for its art deco and popularity appeal, the council needs to pull its finger out and sort this, there has been interest from successful landlords who have been ignored , we need this piece of history reopened as a public house for the community and tourists to enjoy, let’s do it now and stop dragging ther heels, makes you wonder what there agenda is, come on gybc make the correct decision and now.
I live in West Dorset. On visits to Caister during the '80's I saw the Iron Duke pub and was very struck with it's Art Deco style. I actually took some photos of when I visited Southwold twenty years later. I do hope it is preserved for it's unique style.
I live in the Midlands and visit Great Yarmouth at least once every year. I have walked passed the Iron Duke many times over the last 12 years of visiting. The Iron Duke would be a fantastic tourist attraction if it were to be restored as a public house.
This is a stunning example of interwar design . It is a pub not a diner. It has no connection to American culture. Engage with the experienced operators who want to reopen the Iron Duke. Do not waste this opportunity to give the town a unique all year round venue. Faithfully restored it will be a big draw. This is a heritage pub to be proud of.
The building could be used for so many public things. Great Yarmouth Council should save this great building.
